Methyl Acetoacetate
Methyl Acetoacetate is a clear and colourless liquid solution that is slightly soluble in water, but denser than water. It is produced when methyl acetate reacts with sodium methoxide. This chemical reagent acts as a raw material in the syntheses of pharmaceuticals, alpha-substituted aceto- acetic esters and cyclic compounds. It is also used in Biginelli reaction, that forms molecules such as dihydropyrimidinones. Other manufacturing processes used to produce uracil herbicides bromacil and terbacil, and organophosphorus insecticide diazinon, also use this chemical. Large quantities of Methyl Acetoacetate are supplied in drums.
